Buckeye Nuts: A buckeye nut is a hard poisonous nut related to a horse chestnut. It is brown with a lighter brown spot. This feature made it look something like the eye of a deer, hence the name. For more information about buckeyes, visit "Ohio Buckeye" in the Wikipedia

For more fun with buckeyes, or for a fun party snack, try making candy buckeyes using this recipe:

Ingredients:

2 lb. creamy peanut butter
1 lb. butter
3 lb. confectioners' sugar
2 pkg. (12 oz.) size chocolate chips
1/2 bar paraffin*

Directions:

Line cookie sheet with wax paper. Mix peanut butter, butter and sugar until smooth. Form small balls approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches across. Insert toothpicks and set on cookie sheet. Refrigerate or freeze until firm (about 1 hour). Fill the bottom of a double boiler with water and set over low heat. Slowly melt chocolate chips and paraffin together in the top of the double boiler. When melted chocolate is smooth, use toothpicks to dip cold balls into chocolate until two-thirds covered. Shake or allow excess chocolate to drip off. Set to dry on cookie sheet, or refrigerate. Remove toothpick. Cover toothpick hole with leftover chocolate.

*Paraffin can be omitted, but candies will need to be refrigerated until chocolate sets. Makes about 166 candies.

Fly high with the Buckeyes:

We're not sure who decided to pull this stunt, or where they were when they did it (in case their superiors find out), but we like their style!

An image of a true Buckeyes fan:
We didn't count just how many buckeye nuts this Buckeye fan is wearing...

This Buckeyes fan is wearing a beaded poncho made of buckeye nuts over a hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

...but it's an amazing achievement.

Santa Claus Off Season:
You might think we would be surprised at the kind of Buckeyes fans there are out there...
